ANNOUNCING: IN THE CITY, Jim Trainer's News & Public Affairs Program On KOOP Radio In 2024
In The City There's A Thousand Things I Wanna Say To You
The past 8 weeks have been the deadliest on record for journalists.
—Abby Martin
The victim who is able to articulate the situation of the victim has ceased to be a victim.
—James Baldwin
Who the hell is James Baldwin?
—George SantosAs I look back over a misspent life, I find myself more and more convinced that I had more fun doing news reporting than in any other enterprise. It is really the life of kings.
—H.L. Mencken
H.L. Mencken was right, and post-American Century the news is instantaneous with connecting flights to anywhere in the lower 49 you can afford. I can take office in the wind anywhere, and say goodbye to this dillynook of a pro-life and con-education state but I’ll still have to report. I’ll have missed at least one news cycle by the time I touch down and have to find good WiFi and alright coffee what else.
Like Mencken I only write for the public. Ain’t no good life but it’s my life and anyway a far cry from coming up a skinhead in the township and scrawling on a CVS bound-spiral in blue and black ink. I mean, I’ll still journal, and visit with “the friend,” but only when I’m at an impasse and need to come to Jesus with myself.
To wit I saved my own fucking life last summer when I covered the urge to die. The beat was suicide and HOW TO SAVE A LIFE was borne both of despair and a lifelong addiction to journalism. Even so the only thing better than writing is performing and radio’s my real passion you wanna know the truth.
I’ll be broadcasting on KOOP Radio, the first day of the year and anyway getting my hot-medium fix at world’s end. The internet’s ok but ever listen to a voice, promulgating free media with love and hate at 3,000-watts over the city and surrounding counties?
Tune in.
