I was looking for a posthumous quote from Hunter Thompson’s first wife about how, for all his outrageousness, he fell short of becoming the great American writer he always wanted to be.

Gentlemen turned 30 on October 5, 1993. It’s a date etched on my psyche like a tarot card and symbol of the proud folly of the 20th century and the last time we could make it here.
