Dear Editors,
I am not a revolutionary. Much to my chagrin too, as I’ve staked my identity being on “the wrong side of whatever side there was.” The poems and monologue submitted here are soaked in what visionary Chris Baker has called the luxury of outrage.
The poem “AT NIGHT CITIES ARE ALIGHT WITH THEIR BURNING” was probably written in fear, or dread, but—in the final century what’s the difference? “WHAT A COUNTRY” from IN THE CITY is obvious and tired which instances the hopelessness of the American worker. There are no poems of hope here, although “ONE FOR THE MOON” can count as a blessing. I’m not young or dumb (enough) to purport there is no hope—what a petulant and entitled sentiment that would be—just that there is none in my work.
The only dignity left the American worker is in choosing to be kind. Much to their chagrin, as the Democratic party sprains its neck to turn the other cheek and I take the revolution lying down. Thank you for considering my work. It is indeed my own. I’d be happy to provide you with a bio, CV or anything else in order to be considered.
Otherwise I’ll just keep lying here,
